A team of eight students from The Pennsylvania State University traveled overseas to document agricultural development in South Africa in words and pictures. INTAG 397A Communicating Agricultural Development in South Africa was the first course of its kind at Penn State. After six weeks of preparation covering a brief history of South Africa, agriculture and reporting, photography and reflective journaling techniques, the students headed abroad for two and a half weeks in May 2008.
An agriculture and extension orientation at the University of Pretoria began the trip with a educational foundation. The next several days were spent in-action with Extension officers as the team met with commercial farmers. The second leg of the trip took the team north to Polokwane and the University of Limpopo. Five days were spent interviewing emerging farmers. The third, and final leg of the journey brought the team up-close to the circle of life at Kruger National Park. All students and faculty made it out alive.
This website is a venue for the student’s work - their articles, photography and reflections of South Africa. Please take your time to experience South Africa through their words and photographs.
